Team Payaman’s Pat Velasquez-Gaspar shared how his unico hijo Isla Patriel, a.k.a. Baby Isla, developed a love for reading at an early age.
In a recently uploaded TikTok video, the 11-month-old Baby Isla is seen turning the pages of educational books in random sizes while his Mommy Pat feeds him.
Pat captioned her video: “POV: You’re raising a bookworm baby.”
“Never bored with books. A real page-turner,” Pat added.
Pat also shared in the comment section how she introduced books to Isla as soon as she gave birth to him. The 28-year-old vlogger said she has been doing it for playtime and bedtime, which helped develop Isla’s familiarity with books.
“Pagka-panganak in-introduce ko na kay Isla ang book kahit wala siyang pakialam, binabasahan ko pa rin siya. Before siya magsleep and during playtime hanggang ngayong 11 months na siya. Kaya fave niya [ang] books,“ Pat said.
Research shows that even if young babies do not understand what the pictures in a book mean, they can recognize different patterns, bright colors, and faces.
Infants like Baby Isla start to show more interest in books by grabbing them, turning their pages, pointing at objects on the page, and making sounds.
Such early literacy is vital to babies to develop their imagination, vocabulary, and even social skills.
