Strong Mind Foundation Equips Caritas Manila with Spiritual Tools for Mental Resilience

Recognizing that those who serve others often carry the heaviest emotional burdens, the Strong Mind Foundation recently partnered with Caritas Manila to host a seminar dedicated to spiritual and psychological resilience.

Led by foundation President and Viyline General Manager Rolando Bañaria Cortez, the Strong Mind Spiritual Seminar created an essential connection between mental health awareness and the power of faith.

Caring for the Caregivers

The seminar provided a welcoming environment where employees could openly discuss stress, personal struggles, and mental health. By focusing on awareness, the foundation helped participants understand that seeking help and talking about their feelings is a vital sign of strength.

The initiative also touched on suicide prevention, offering tools to support those who feel overwhelmed. Ultimately, the program aimed to be a spiritual foundation for workers who spend their lives helping others in need.

Light in the Darkness

During the seminar, Mr. Cortez spoke candidly about the reality of human struggle, describing life as a series of trials “from the womb to the tomb.” However, he emphasized that suffering does not define a person’s future.

The Strong Mind Foundation advocates that even in the darkest moments, a glimmer of hope is always within reach. This message offered much-needed comfort to the Caritas staff, who often carry heavy emotional burdens due to the nature of their charitable work.

The Power of Faith

A key part of the seminar was showing how faith can protect one’s mental well-being. The seminar reflected on John 14:27, a Bible verse reminding them that God’s peace can settle a troubled heart.

They also drew inspiration from St. Padre Pio, who taught that great suffering is often met with even greater love from God. This perspective helped the participants view their personal trials not as punishments, but as opportunities to lean closer to their faith and find inner peace.

A Holy Duty

After the event, Mr. Cortez thanked Fr. Anton Pascual and Ms. Rye Zotomayor for their partnership. He reaffirmed his belief that teaching others about mental health is a “holy duty” that saves lives and helps those who feel lost.

“Salamat, Caritas Manila, sa pangunguna ni Fr. Anton Pascual at Ms. Rye Zotomayor, sa pagkakataong makapagbahagi ng karunungang itinuturo ng Strong Mind Spiritual Seminar…” Mr. Cortez said.  “Ito ang adbokasiya ng pamilyang Cortez at ng Viyline para sa mental health lalo na sa suicide prevention,” he added.

The seminar left a lasting impression on those in attendance. Participant Haychel Solon-Tordecilla shared:  “Thank you so much, Sir Rolando Bañaria Cortez. Marami po akong natutunan, and na-inspire po ako to reflect and stay strong kahit may challenges. Thank you po for sharing your wisdom and for continuing to be an instrument of God.”
