Pat Velasquez-Gaspar Shares Tips on Baby’s Transition From Feeding Bottle to Sippy Cup

The best advice – this is how Team Payaman vlogger and first-time mom Pat Velasquez-Gaspar, described their journey of transitioning her son’s milk feeding from bottle to sippy cup at 13 months.

Last July 8, 2024, Pat Gaspar and Exekiel Christian Gaspar, a.k.a Boss Keng’s first-born son, Isla Patriel, celebrated his first birthday. After turning one, Isla marked another milestone that Pat gladly shared with her followers.

While Isla had already started drinking water using a sippy cup at six months old,  Mrs. Gaspar explained why they switched to a sippy cup when giving Isla his daily milk supply.

Increase Solid Food Intake

In a series of Instagram Story entries, the Team Payaman momma explained that her son used to have a small appetite when eating solid foods.

“I noticed na mahina siya kumain [from] bfast [breakfast] to dinner, nagiging go-to-meal niya ang milk, which is hindi sapat dahil 1 yr old na siya,” Pat narrated.

They also noticed that Isla became hungrier at night, interrupting his sleeping pattern. That is why they followed his pediatrician’s advice to give him enough solid food so he could sleep through the night.

“Sa paglimit ko ng milk and pag add ng more solids, from 8PM – 6AM straight tulog siya! Hindi siya nagigising sa gutom. Hindi siya naghanap ng dede. Parehas kaming mahimbing ang tulog. THE BEST ADVICE” she added.

Teeth Protection

The 28-year-old vlogger also revealed that one reason they decided to shift Isla’s milk feeding from a bottle to a sippy cup is to protect his teeth from decay and misalignment.

According to experts, sucking on milk bottles for extended periods can lead to tooth decay as the milk formula pool in their mouth. It also causes teeth misalignment and open bites, which may require dental treatment to correct.

To Avoid Ear Infection

According to the first-time mom, milk feeding using a bottle while lying down could increase the chances of ear infection.

“Dahil pwede magdrain papunta sa ear ang milk at nagiging medium ng bacteria,” Pat explained.

“Ang anatomical structure pala ng ear ng baby ay iba sa adult, maliit ito o makipot ‘di tulad sa adult na nakakapagdrain ng fluid sa ear,” she added.

Mommy Pat also hopes they will succeed and push through the transition for Isla’s development.
