Viy Cortez, Cong TV Fur Baby’s Journey Against Hip Dysplasia

Viy Cortez and Cong TV’s ball of sunshine and first fur baby “Cheesecake” or “Ikik” recently underwent a major surgical operation. 

In a Facebook post, the fur parents bid their prayers for the successful operation of Cheesecake last April 20, 2022. 

Likewise, supporters of the couple sent in their “get well soon” messages and prayed for her immediate recovery.

What happened to Ikik?

Cheesecake was diagnosed with Hip Dysplasia. The American College of Veterinary Surgeons (ACVS) described it as “a condition that begins in dogs as they grow and results in instability or a loose fit of the hip joint.”

Hip Dysplasia is often inherited or caused by a rapid weight gain due to excessive nutritional intake. 

Furr parents must be vigilant regarding their dogs’ overall health. According to ACVS, the first signs of Hip Dysplasia could include lameness, reluctance to jump, weight fluctuation, and hip pain. 

Moreover, in a YouTube live stream, E.V. Dog and Cat Clinic shared Ikik’s operation footage to educate viewers on how the operation went. Disclaimer, viewer discretion is advised!

To all fur parents out there, don’t fret! Of course, prevention is still better than cure. You can still prevent Canine Hip Dysplasia by doing the following:

• Ensure that their skeletal system grows properly.
• Give them a healthy and appropriate diet.
• Avoid forcing them to perform tricks or exercises that you think are beyond their capabilities.

Successful Operation, Yay!

Thanks to all the prayers and the medical team behind Cheesecake’s operation, Ikik successfully made it through her surgery. 

In a separate Facebook post, Viy Cortez commended Ikik for being a good girl and surviving her operation.

“Good girl anak, Cheesecake! I love you! Tapos na operation niya. Thank you, Lord!” she wrote.

A brave girl, indeed!
